Dear Parents of Grade 7 Students,
During the 2017/18 school year, York Region Public Health will visit public, catholic and private schools to provide school immunization clinics for Grade 7 students. The clinics offer vaccines for Hepatitis B, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and Meningococcal A, C, Y, W-135 at no cost.
If you have not already sent a completed consent form to York Region Public Health, please do so now using the attached form. Detailed instructions on how to complete and submit the form can be found on the form and accompanying letter. If a completed consent form is not received, your child will not be able to be vaccinated at the clinic.
Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, meningococcal vaccine is required for school attendance, unless an exemption is filed. Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines are recommended, but not required for school attendance.
Parents and guardians who do not consent should still complete the forms and return them, indicating that you do not authorize York Region Public Health to immunize your child.
Visit york.ca/immunizations and click on School Immunization Clinics for more information.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is student-centred with a focus on developing intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills for students who live, learn and work in a rapidly changing world. The program emphasizes critical and compassionate thinking, community involvement, and intercultural understanding. It is founded on international standards and assessment. Students who complete the Programme earn both an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and an IB Diploma.
Current Grade 8 students and families interested in the Programme are invited to attend an information session at the school offering the IB Programme in their area. During each session, information about the Programme and the application process will be shared. To determine your area please visit the YRDSB school locator.
With the extreme temperatures we are currently experiencing, our school, like many others across the province, is very warm. We remind parents/ guardians to make sure that our students are:
- dressed appropriately for the weather. Please do not dress children in layers – loose clothing is highly recommended;
- bringing a refillable water bottle to school; freezing it the night before will allow it to melt as the day goes on;
- wear sunscreen as we do have periods of outdoor play (during recess).
Just a reminder that picture day is Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
Every student received on Friday an instruction sheet on how to register for School Cash Online. Your child’s student ID is located at the top of the sheet. This is a FREE service.
While we understand that some families will prefer to pay by cheque/ cash, we STRONGLY encourage as many families to register and pay for events using the school cash online secure platform. It makes it considerably easier for teachers as they do not waste valuable class time collecting forms and it is also safer for the students as money cannot get lost/ end up at the bottom of their bag.
Just a reminder that our first School Council meeting takes place tonight, Thursday September 14th in the Library at 7pm.
Elections will take place at this meeting.
We look forward to seeing you tonight.
